Thanksgiving Day themed movies? (1 Viewer)

I did a quick search on this and saw a lot of lists for Christmas movies, but not for Thanksgiving.
The only movies I can think of with Thanksgiving themes are A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, Dutch, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles. I was hoping someone could point me to some other good movies that either revolve around Thanksgiving or take place at Thanksgiving.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wish that they would release "Dutch" on DVD. AFAIK it is only available in VHS format.

Although it is not considered a good film, I love Ed O'Neill's character in this movie. A guilty pleasure of mine.

I second the nomination for "Pieces of April". I watched it earlier this year and plan on revisiting it with my family over T-Day.

Doesn't Scent of a Woman happen during Thanksgiving? It's been long since I saw it last, so I'm not sure if Thanksgiving is referred to in the movie in any meaningful way.

Pieces of April is a very good movie, a real sleeper. Home for the Holidays is a fum movie just not a great one.

Two movies to look for, although not on DVD yet, are Plymouth Adventure a really good film starring Spencer Tracy (Warner where is this dvd?) and there is an animated (cel animated) Rankin Bass Special called Mouse on the Mayflower which is also very good (Sony where is this DVD?).

My wife and I love "Home for the Holidays"... it's a tradition at our house. But when we share it with other people, most don't like it.

A friend of mine last year said he couldn't believe he sat through it. When I asked why, he said it was too close to his actual family.

Anyway, Robert Downey Jr. is hilarious in it.

Miracle on 34th Street starts on Thanksgiving with Natalie Wood watching the Macy's parade. I think it's on NBC this Thanksgiving afternoon.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles is listed in the first post, but it deserves to be listed again! A great movie, and the one we watch every Thanksgiving.

Count me as another fan of Dutch. O'Neil just has a charm I really like, especially with characters like this one (working slob angle).

Though it's not explicitly Thanksgiving themed, on turkey day I usually pull out "The Last Waltz" - one of the best rock films ever, and the concert the film centers around took place on Thanksgiving 1976.

National Lampoon's Holiday Reunion comedy was just released Tuesday (11/16/04), starring Bryan Cranston, Judge Reinhold, Rheta Hutton and Noel Fisher. Widescreen 1.78:1 + DD 5.1 audio on side A of the DVD and Full Screen 1.33:1 + 5.1 audio on the other.

Only had a chance to view the first 15 minutes so far, but it looks very promising. ;) It definitely has the Thanksgiving Day theme.:emoji_thumbsup:

I always pull it out for my President's Day viewing! :D

Maybe a remake would include MLK Day - just hope it doesn't get the kind of treatment the movie accords Lincoln's Birthday...;)

I, too, am a fan of Home For The Holidays as is my whole extended family. Maybe it's too close to our own dysfunctional family, but it gets a viewing every year at our house when everyone gathers. That and the aforementioned laugh riot Planes, Trains and Automobiles! :emoji_thumbsup:
