Dennis, an interesting read. I have family in Manchester which was the primary decision to move here. It's not as cold as I expected it to be and the sun did come out a few times. I hope we have a summer.

On a quiz show just now -

Quiz Host: Who was the captain of the Nautilus in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea?

    a) Ahab
    b) Nemo
    c) Captain Flint

Contestant: Well it's not Nemo and I don't think it's Ahab... Captain Flint?

Mike, Russ, never heard of the Before Trilogy, and I don't think I've seen the After Trilogy either. Some Criterion titles are starting pop up in the UK too finally, a bit expensive but the prices do drop after a few months.

Elizabeth, I'm hoping to see Furious 8 some time next week. It looks spectacular and they might have jumped the shark with scenes of cars being chased by a huge submarine, I heard the next one is set in space. It grossed half a billion dollars worldwide in it's first 3 days, so it doesn't look like people are fed up with the series yet. But how normal that first film looks after the increasingly over the top sequels! :)

My reading has uncovered an interesting fact about voting in Britain. University graduates once got to cast two votes. This privilege was only abolished by the Representation of the People Act in 1948. Prior to that date holding a degree really was an advantage.

The Representation of the People Act of 1918 had another good idea. Candidates had to deposit 150 GBP which they forfeited if they failed to get at least 1/8 of the votes cast. This really must have cut down on fringe candidates as that was a considerable sum in those days.

Well, I'm running down the road
    tryin' to loosen my load
    I've got seven women on
    my mind,
    Four that wanna own me,
    Two that wanna stone me,
One says she's a friend of mine
Take It easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
    drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
    don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
    and take it easy
    Well, I'm a standing on a corner
    in Winslow, Arizona
and such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed
Ford slowin' down to take a look at me
Come on, baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
    gonna save me
We may lose and we may win though
we will never be here again
so open up, I'm climbin' in,
    so take it easy
Well I'm running down the road trying to loosen
my load, got a world of trouble on my mind
lookin' for a lover who won't blow my
cover, she's so hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
don't let the sound of your own
    wheels make you crazy
come on baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
gonna save me, oh oh oh
    Oh we got it easy
    We oughta take it easy

The stock market went up considerably (and I don't have short positions currently).

Hello Testy, I'm on one of those boxes with a tv screen. I think they called them computers back in the day.

I saw "Colossal" starring Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikas a few days ago. It was "different" and quite entertaining. I think it's one of those movies that will build a nice little cult following.

Yesterday, I saw "Free Fire" starring Brie Larson, Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer and Cillian Murphy. Great cast (Oscar winner!), but rather a mess of a film. Imagine 2 groups of baddies making a gun deal in an abandoned warehouse including a couple of dimwitted hotheads. . .what could go wrong!?!?!? It's hard at times to figure out quite where each character is in the warehouse, much less who belonged to which group and should be protecting whose back. At least Sharlto and Armie had quirky characters to play. I'm pretty surprised this one is being held over for another week here.

Watched "Snowden" at home the other day and thought it was excellent!! Joseph Gordon-Levitt was totally believable in the role and it moved at a good pace.

Saw "Gifted" this weekend -- good movie! Always like Chris Evans, and McKenna Grace is a fantastic young actress!

I'm hoping to see Gifted before it flies out of theaters.

Peg and I watched the Blu of A Dog's Purpose last night. I liked it even more than when I saw it in the theaters. Of course, that may have had something to do with the recent loss of my two dogs a few weeks ago. :(

ANY dog-loving droog NEEDS to do themselves the favor of seeing this film. I can't recommend it enough. It is quite faithful to Cameron's original book and celebrates the bond that is created between man and his best friend. Powerful stuff.

    Here's a review of the Frezon-family-viewing-experience by my son's dog, Zeke! :D

No dog movies for me Mike, I'm a cat person, dogs unnerve me. I saw a cat movie a few months ago - A Street Cat Named Bob - which is worth watching once. Based on a true story about a homeless young heroin addict who befriends a homeless cat and turns his life around.

I went to the cinema last night and saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. Not as good as the first film, it's quite messy actually, but still hugely enjoyable. Great songs, great characters, it's frequently hilarious and you might even shed a tear or two by the finish. Kurt Russell plays Chris Pratt's alien dad and this guy has an ego the size of a planet, in fact he is a planet, and his name is Ego! Stallone turns up too, Tango & Cash together again! ..well not quite.

I did stay thru the end credits this time because there are multiple 'mid-credits' scenes.

Highly recommended. 8 out of 10.

    More please!

Strange mix of people. Marlon Brando's older sister, Scourby who voiced Victory at Sea the same year, and mixing Lee Marvin with Fritz Lang?
