Based on that list of films in 1982, it might be one of the best years ever for movies! I think I gave Sucker Punch 3/5. I like it for the eye candy, but I don't love it.

Sttteefffff, nice to see you liked Rise Of The Monkeys. I thought it did tie into the films. There's a new report of a launched man mission to mars and that in the film. So that's the link? Speaking of link, Link would be my favourite good monkey gone bad film. Anyone remember that? It starred Elizabeth Shue and her side boob.

I got a pass to a screening of Conan The Barbarian in Three Dimensions tonight, if I get in I'll post a review later. I'm not completely won over on this one, the lead looks shit. Cross fingers it's good!

I am liking the trailers for the Fright Night remake though. I'll have to check that one out.

Russ, I remember Link. They used a real ape and the mad doctor was... Terence Stamp? Did the ape try to rape Elizabeth Shue or was it a perverse dream of mine? Trying to remember...

I liked the red band trailer to Conan, plenty of gore, let us know what you thought of it.

The Fright Night remake looked a little anaemic compared to Conan, Colin Farrell does not look frightening or threatening enough. They should have made a goofy version with Nic Cage as a barking mad vampire running through the streets with his cape over his head... (anyone see Vampire's Kiss?)

Rick, I liked Sucker Punch more the second time I've watched it. On a purely visual level of course. :)

Looking forward to Destroy All Monsters and other Godzilla classics coming to Blu-ray in the future. And let's have some extras this time, I bet the old Japanese LDs were filled with goodies.

You are remembering Link correctly Steve. He was a very naughty monkey in that one!

I think Farrell looks alright in it. The guy in the original Fright Night was a bit of a dandy. Roddy McDowell was great in it. I wonder if we'll get a good bluray of the original out of this re-release. I remember hearing that all the DVDs were a bit crap. Or maybe that was for the sequel. I'd buy them both on Blu if they had good transfers :)

I plan to catch Conan tomorrow. It stars one of the lead guys from Game of Thrones, which I liked. Watched Priest and loved it, much better than I thought. I was expecting it to be kinda corny but it wasn't, which was a nice surprise.

As for Apes, I read that it's now going to become a trilogy. I can't remember where I read it though, if I find the link I'll post it.

Well, I'm just about ready to take my daughter over to high school so she can register as a Freshmen. Oh boy, what little hair I have let well now totally fall out. HIGH SCHOOL! AHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

That lead guy in Conan looks more like a Tarzan to me, I think that's why I'm having trouble with it. Plus the original film is ridiculously good and a personal favourite. I'll let you know what I think, Maybe this will be the film we agree on Ron! Priest was good, a vampire The Searchers. They talk about the vampire hives being secreted by the vampires. The vamps are humans... so it's got to be something... CUM CAVERNS FUCK OFF! GROSS! :P

Hey Rick, a new Bladerunner? A prequel? Sequel? no one knows, but Ridley is http://www.deadline.com/2011/08/ridley-scott-ready-to-direct-new-version-of-seminal-sci-fi-film-blade-runner/
I’m not getting a clear sense at this point whether Scott intends to do a sequel or a prequel to the 1982 film that was loosely based on the Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Also unclear is whether they start fresh or reach out to Harrison Ford, who starred that took place in dystopian Los Angeles in 2019, in which organic superhuman robots called replicants escaped and are hiding somewhere on earth. Ford played Richard Deckard, a burnt out blade runner assigned to hunt them down. His tired life gets altered when he himself falls for one of the replicants and struggles to keep her from being destroyed.

The film was not a blockbuster when first released--it grossed $32 million in its original run--but the film has gained esteem over time. From the bleak but breathtaking visuals to the complex storyline and themes of mortality, Blade Runner became a classic. There has periodically been talks of doing a sequel but those never really went anywhere. After injecting state of the art 3D in reviving Alien, imagine what Scott can do with Blade Runner? Now, the filmmaker is ready to engage. Alcon has its output deal with Warner Bros, which remastered and released a 25th anniversary version on DVD and Blu-Ray in 2007. Warner Bros made the original film.
This is just the first step and the project will have to be written and it will likely evolve during that process. That's what happened on Alien, which began as a prequel to his 1979 classic. That changed when Lost's Damon Lindelof came in with a different take on the subject matter that imprinted on Scott and Fox executives. They wound up making Prometheus, which Fox considers an original but which I've heard is a cousin to the original Alien franchise. That film will be released June 8, 2012, with Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Patrick Wilson, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce starring. Scott is repped by WME.

Ha ha, I like that ads for porno at a drive in are running along side ones for Raiders! you wont see that anymore!

Looking at the listings for today, most of the films seem like ones hankering back to that period. Hollywood is bankrupt of ideas. It's the price of growing up with movies.

And for the record Condorman is not a good movie, but I remember watching it all the time as a kid :P

I haven't seen the original Conan and have no interest in this remake. I do want to see Fright Night eventually for Colin Farrell, though.
This weekend, I hope to see Another Earth. The premise sounds so interesting, but the reactions are a bit mixed. I wouldn't mind also seeing Sarah's Key if I can fit it in.

Another Earth looked interesting Elizabeth, but I can wait for dvd on that. I'm really just curious about the 'shock' ending.

Condorman was awful Russ, could only watch it once.

Those films were once brand new and at the cinema Mike, fascinating eh? In 1981 Raiders was the film I was most curious about, when I first heard about it I remember wondering why Spielberg would want to make a film about the discovery of Noah's Ark.

Ridley Scott and a sequel or prequel to Blade Runner might be cool, but isn't he working on a big new Alien movie called Prometheus?

Yeah, I'd be scared to revisit Condorman now. Back in '83 it worked on my kid brain ha ha. I remember Raiders terrifying me in the theaters when the ark is opened.

I haven't heard of either of the films Liz has mentioned. I love testy! :D

Wow, Mike's screenshots bring back some memories. Thanks, Mike for that trip down memory lane. Also love the audio gear ads later in the same thread.
There was an old thread a few years back (I guess that is redundant) talking about greatest summers for films and for my money it would have to be 1982.
There were simply a ton of great, iconic films released during that season. While Blade Runner is not quite my all time favorite, it is an easy top 20 and
sometimes a top 10 - depending upon my mood. I think I've owned just about every version of this released on Home Video, except the HD-DVD version.
International Cut - VHS - had the extra seconds with Tyrell's eyes getting squished.
Theatrical Cut - VHS - The domestic VHS release, with narration I believe.
Criterion LD - with the Syd Mead gallery amongst other things.
Warner Bros Director's Cut LD
Original DVD release - kind of yucky looking transfer - but still one of my favorite early DVDs.
Remastered DVD release (from 2006?)
Blu-Ray Ultimate Edition - One of the prizes of my Bd collection.
Oh yeah, speaking of Blade Runner. I detest the change in Roy Batty's dialog with Tyrell, "I want more life f***er." Leave it the father alone.
Not certain how I feel about Scott going back to the Blade Runner universe. While I realize that the original work is available no matter what, sometimes I think it
is best to leave well enough alone. I guess we'll see how that works out.
- Walter.

Hmmm interesting Ron and Kate Beckinsale's back too, nice. Never heard of the two directors though. Beckinsale is currently filming the remake of Total Recall with Colin Farrell in the um Schwarzenegger part, she plays bad girl Lori, and Jessica Biel the good girl Melina. Directed by Kate's hubby Len Wiseman, director of the first Underworld film.

I hated that change to Blade Runner too Walter. Weakens the scene IMO. Glad we have all the other versions too. But you know, get it right first time for fook's sake! :)

Who plays the girl with three boobies in that Total Recall remake? Is it too late to give the three boobied whore a larger part? Is Elizabeth Shue and a monkey available?

I well see Underworld, and will probably like it! If it's like the other three, I'll probably forget everything about it too. I mean, it's vampire vs werewolf but aside from that, I couldn't tell you specific plot points in any of them. In one eye and out my ears this series is yes! I accidently typed "Werewrof", there's movie gold. People get bitten by a Klingon and turn into the dreaded Were-Worfs! Trekkies and Goths would flock to it. WILL ONE OF THE MODS GET HOLLYWOOD ON THE PHONE WITH ME PLEASE?!?!?

I liked the Blade Runner Final Cut. Is that the one you two don't like? I see what you mean about the sequels/prequels taking the shine off the original sometimes. That's The Matrix for me. I thought the first film brilliant, and still enjoy it, but those sequels while good certainly don't give me much urge to re-watch the first one since my stupid OCD makes me think I have to watch all of them. How people can watch like, the middle film of a series without rewatching all of them... I kind of hate you a little bit since I'm jealous

Russell - I like the Final cut edition of Blade Runner just fine, for the most part. I just think that one change in the dialog should not have been made. The original scene between Batty and Tyrell works so well that the filmmakers should have had the sense to leave well enough alone.

Right! I just got back from watching Conan unsheathe his mighty sword and lustily bury it deep inside many a man!

Errr... wait..that sounds kind of wrong... ummm.... let me try that again....

Conan the Barbarian 3D! I think that's what it's called. Anyways, I sawed it tonight! I did! There was hacking and slashing and stabbing and rolling and head splitting and weird hair cuts. It was practically non-stop action. Which is good! Then there is the other bits with dialogue and stuff that were damned terrible. Which is bad! But really, there's so much action compared to non-action scenes that you kind of forget how terrible the terrible bits are, like the comedy bits and the 21st Century sassy sexy girl that Conan gets a crush on. But then there are unintentionally funny bits that had me rolling with laughter which I wont spoil. So it is kind of funny. So in the end it's a picture I kind of liked but did not love. 3/5

Arnold is still the best Conan and that first Conan movie is still the closest to the spirit of the Robert Howard stories. Maybe they shouldn't of hired a guy who looks like he's wearing Mascara all the time? Wash the eye liner off and he would of made a decent Tarzan. Oh, and Rose Mcgowan is in this too, but with a really weird Divine like haircut so there isn't much Va-Va-Vooom! factor. All right, there was a little Va-Va-Voom factor, but in a totally creepy way... :P

PS: I HATE WEARING 3D GLASSES OVER MY GLASSES! STOP IT ALREADY!

3 out of 5 for Conan? Not bad Russ. I'll see it eventually, not on the big screen. I'm trying to decide if Cowboys & Aliens is worth seeing at the cinema, it hasn't even made it to $100m so far. Has no one recommended it?

Rise of the Apes has already grossed $210m worldwide, it's a big hit, not a mega hit like Transformers 3, Pirates 4 or Harry Potter 8 they grossed more than a billion dollars each this year.

Woot! Your favourite word has made it into the Oxford English Dictionary Russ. :)

A View To A Kill yes?

WOOT! About time that word was recognized by the Oxford English blah-ba-de-blah!

By no means is Conan good, it's simply not terrible. 3 stars for me means I'd probably watch it again. Conan would be a boardline 2.5-3. Take it as you wish! Ron was off to see it today, maybe he'll have a better reaction? The store I got the passes from apologized to everyone on Twitter earlier narf narf!
