Anamorphic widescreen and three featurettes for an MSRP of $14.99? I can handle that, especially since Paramount used to post MSRPs of $25 for catalog disks that were more bareboned. December 7th just keeps getting more expensive.
Wow, I didn't realize this was coming to DVD. The only time I saw this was as a kid and it scared the shit out of me. I remember laying in bed thinking about it every night before falling asleep for a few weeks :b
It will be interesting to see again as an adult and see if it is as powerfull as I remember.
I applaud Paramount for putting this out on DVD at all. It isn't going to be a big seller, probably. But it is more timely now than when originally made, what with so much potential for nuclear terrorism these days. And the film is totally without sensationalism. It achieves its (very potent) effects through suggestion and through the astonishing performances of Jane Alexander and her movie children. When you aren't being bombarded by mushroom clouds and people being vaporized, you can take the time to think, damn, this is how it would probably (and could well) be someday, right in the town where I live!
