What are a few easy to find and cheap dvd movies that have good visual scenes. I want to try out my new plasma. And how can you tell what resolution a dvd is recorded in? it never says, is it a standard on all discs? thanks

All DVDs are recorded in 720×480 ("NTSC" discs only) or 720×576 ("PAL" discs only) resolution. This is regardless of whether they are "anamorphic" (video is output in 16:9 format) or not (video is output as 4:3 format). Very occasionally, you will meet a DVD which has had the material cross-converted from some other resolution, but as far as recording resolutions go, that's all there is.
