But isn't T2 owned by Artisan? Has this changed since the release of the "Ultimate Edition"
I wonder what they'll call them...... How do you top 'Ultimate'? 'Absolute Ultimate'?
I thought WB would probably get the video rights with all that $$$ they ponied up to make T3, but I could be wrong. Anyone know?
Y'know, a while back Ron posted a poll/Q-and-A thread along the lines of "Studio seeks our input: How would you go about taking one of the very best DVD releases and make it any better for a re-release?"
I was sure at the time that this was alluding to the inevitable re-release of T2 in time for the film release of T3. Looks like I nailed it!
What if you are right David ? How can they actually top that DVD since it is already a standard bearer for SE
BTW I send you an email like 10 minutes ago.
i don't get it: will this be a re-release? i suppose the fact that it's at another studio would say nay, but they said it would be a new boxset, not new discs. also, when they say it will be a 2 disc set, does that mean 1 disc per movie?
will MGM do a "silence of the lambs" type thing and make an SE that's different-but-not-necessarily-better?
I am sure I am in the minority here, but I am NOT that impressed with the transfer of T2 and would like to see a new and improved transfer that has less EE and doesn't look "pinched" for a lack of a better word. I would like to see a movie like this look better. (I will say the soundtrack is outstanding.)
I hope MGM does something with this as they did with Silence of the Lambs.
The only things that would get me to repurchase would be new deleted scenes, a new extended cut, or a better looking picture, none of which I think are very likely. New commentaries, documentaries, etc. aren't going to fork open my wallet.
with these two re releases happening, what are the chances of seeing the SE of Titanic as well.
Well David, they are releasing a SE of Titanic here in the UK. Movie only & Soundtrack to be exact. lol
I know that it is with a different studio, David. James Cameron does have some cloud over the two Terminator movies I would think, perhaps making a killing over these two re releases, and in the process gain some revenge over not being involved as heavily in the 3rd. Okay he is not directing T3 yet I have a strong feeling that he does have some influence over this movie
How can MGM even be releasing T2 to DVD? Is this an R2 deal...or has Artisan's contract with Canal+ for the Carolco films FINALLY EXPIRED?! (If so...YAY! We could actually get a GOOD Stargate disc!)
Artisan still owns T2 I think MGM asked to include it in the box set as Warner has done this in the past wit other directors. Like Oliver Stone.
Jeff: An Artisan "Ultimate Edition" of Stargate should be out in early 2003. It was scheduled to be released about now, but it's been delayed to early 2003, according to The Digital Bits.
Of course, after Terminator 3 is released, there will be yet another ultra-super-fantastic box set with all three movies.
If T3 is in one of those God-forsaken Snapper cases, I WILL NOT BUY IT!
Well, I hope they decide to put a documentary on the T2 edition. The current one has an EPK doc, some Universal promo, and a cable special, and also about a million pages of text! I'll need a good retrospective documentary and maybe a new commentary (as the one there is a bunch of interviews edited together) for a repurchase.
....And maybe a $10 rebate.
