    Hi all,

I just ordered the Tempest driver. I just want to make sure how much wood should I cut since I don't have the driver w/ me yet? It's a 15" diameter right? What is the exact hole should I cut out? 14"? BTW, I will use a router (borrow from a frnd) to do the circular cut. Is it a good idea? or there is something else I should consider? Thanks in advance...

    Alex,

Ok so you cut a hole 13 15/16", but if you are to recess it (flush mount) how deep do you route it? i.e. using a rabbitt bit I would think? 3/4"? Now since I would be using 3/4" MDF I would have to make the baffle thicker? Maybe 2 peice of 3/4" for a full 1.5"?

    thanks,
    Marc

Most people laminate two 3/4" pieces of MDF for the panel that has the driver installed on it. If you want to flush mount the driver, yes, it's 3/4" deep, so cut a 15" wide outer hole, and a 13 15/16" inner hole for the driver.

the drivers all have the seal on the front/top of the outside ring. most people mount from the outside so there is bare wood against metal. so, what do you people seal that with? silicon? gasket material?
