So strange that this release is full screen when a widescreen transfer exists...

A clip from the widescreen transfer can be viewed here:

That's what makes the Fox Cinema Archie program such a frustrating and mortifying one. This is only one of dozens of examples of the same phenomenon.

It makes you wonder just how the MOD release of "Blue Denim" (another very neat 1950s Fox teen movie) ended up being so good. A beautiful transfer and terrific sound - so decidedly good in fact that it almost seems like a promo for a more definitive release. Then "Teenage Rebel," which has Ginger Rogers in it & is historically significant for being an early b&w CinemaScope film, gets the shaft. It doesn't add up.

Teenage Rebel was an earlier release in the Cinema Archive program, so here's hoping Fox has seen the light and is now doing right by their Cinemascope productions. We certainly talked about these low grade transfers when we met with them last October.

According the Classicflix.com, Fox's latest archive release, On The Threshold of Space, is pan-and-scan, so apparently they haven't "seen the light" yet.
