We have an SL-PD8 CD changer, which we got off eBay a couple of years ago... it's been working just fine, up until a week or so back, and milady loves it...
Recently, though, it's started doing some odd things; basically, it doesn't seem to actually know which slots actually have disk in them!! Whenever we start it up, it seems to randomly select LEDs to light up. If we try to send a command to a disk which is not actually there, but LED is lit, nothing happens. I *think* (from a small number of tests) that it *does* accurately indicate slots where a CD actually *is* present. If I insert a CD in a slot that it had already, incorrectly indicated was occupied, it just doesn't see it.
I guess I have two question...
1. is it possible that there is just dirt or fur or something on a sensor in there? If so, is there some way to clean it? I cannot phyically get access to any of those elements, unless I open up the player, which I'd rather not.
2. Otherwise, has anyone else seen anything like this? Any ideas on how we might fix it?
I don't think we actually have any audio-equipment repair businesses around here any more (Fremont, CA, USA)...
