Watch it comes out in 4k. It's beginning to happen to me lately. I buy To Catch a Thief and then it's out in 4k. I buy North by Northwest and then there it is in 4k. And the reviews which were excellent for the bluray say how much better the 4k version is. Very frustrating. Do I get this or wait for the 4k? Life is filled with difficult decisions.

I would be surprised if Teacher's Pet makes it to 4K. You bring up To Catch A Thief, but that was a) initially released on Blu-ray more than a decade ago and b) released on Blu-ray by Paramount themselves (with them upgrading it to 4K themselves). I think it's telling that Paramount decided to license out Teacher's Pet on Blu-ray instead of releasing it themselves. And considering Kino's 4K releases of 1950 films have generally had Blu-ray releases available for some time, it doesn't look good. So, for what my thoughts are worth, go for the Blu-ray and don't wait for a 4K. It feels highly unlikely that a 4K will happen anytime soon (if ever).

Agree with Astairefan, no point waiting for 4k releases now. I raised it on the KL thread when Houseboat & Teacher's Pet were announced. The big VistaVision titles (Hitchcock, White Christmas, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral) have had 4k releases after blu rays had been available for some time. The only big VistaVision title without a blu ray is High Society, which is hopefully in the Warner pipeline. I doubt any other VistaVision titles will receive 4k releases (perhaps Last Train) but there are still many that we are waiting for on blu ray.

Great review, Josh! I also found this film more substantial than you do, back in the day. Of course, I was only seven, and considering it was on a double-bill with TEENAGERS FROM OUTER SPACE, almost anything would seem substantial by comparison. In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing it again. It was also my first exposure to Ms. Van Doren, leading to SEX KITTENS GO TO COLLEGE, a film that is substantial in more ways than one.

HIGH SOCIETY was on UK tv in HD some weeks ago and, having thought I'd see some of it, found it too amazingly superior to the DVD and just too overall beautiful to switch off!!

So a great Master exists, but not issued on Blu-ray.

The Well, Did You Evah? sequence is included in the new That's Entertainment Blu-ray disc, and it looks superb. It has obviously received some remedial treatment so the big questions are: how much? and to the whole film?
