The TEAC LSR-200 6-SPEAKER HOME THEATRE SYSTEM over at Parts Express is going for $178.

Do these speakers suck so bad that they are not suitable for even the most casual and apathetic listener? Or do you think they would suit two old folks for casual movie watching and occassional music playing (at mild levels).

All the rest of the AV equipment, with exception of the Pioneer Elite DVD player, is all entry level stuff.

If not these, then, any suggestions for a complete 5.1 set for $300 or less?

For what you claim your needs are, this package is probably fine for the $$$.

I would also look at the JBL NSP-1 package and the $125 Dayton DLS sub. You might have to go $350 once all is said & done (the extra $50 is mostly for shipping, I'd say) but you'd have a pretty killer system for the modest expenditure.
