I am going to be buying a Teac A-2300 SR Reel to Reel from the original owner nearby tomorrow. He says it only has 35-40 hrs on it, original owners manual, blank tapes and custom carrying case. Anyway he also says it hasn't been used in a number of years. Is there any harm in my turning it on and checking it out if it looks all right ? Is there a chance it needs some type of lubrication before I try it out ? Should I pay to have someone check it over before I attempt to use it or can I make some basic checks and give it a try ?

please let me know

thx

Ron

Yes the age of the kids at Best Buy just doesn't lend itself to helping me with this antique...

Not familar with model but, powering it up may be an issue. Depending on the caps. A lot of older devices especially if they have not been used too often may present problems in that rgrd.

Bought it yesterday - powers up fine looks like new - next step might be replace belt and lube it up - great buy w/ 10 sealed tapes, remote, pro grade carry case.
