    1) The current Collector's Edition is a good disc.

    2) It won't be a part of the rumored Scorsese box set because that box set is coming from Warner, and Taxi Driver is owned by Columbia Tri-Star.

I just picked it up today and wanted to make sure B4 I opened it. It is 16x9 and has some features but I did not want to double dip. So thanks for the info.

What will be in the Scorese collection then? Good Fellas, Raging Bull, Mean Streets, Any Thing else?

Raging Bull won't be in the set because its owned by MGM, not warner.

I hope I'm wrong and I'm not basing this on much other than hearsay but I don't think we should get too excited about this Scorsese box-set. I've heard it will include AFTER HOURS and ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE. MEAN STREETS has also been mentioned and so has WHO'S THAT KNOCKING AT MY DOOR. I'm not sure that GOODFELLAS will be ready for the box-set or even that the films mentioned will be special editions as such. Some or all or none of this may be accurate but I don't think it's going to be the Scorsese-DeNiro fest that -let's face it- we were all hoping for.

Warner have yet to officially announce the specs and release dates for these DVDs. We might see them this year, most certainly early next year.

Same goes for Blade Runner. [IMG]

Has WB already shot down the chance to work with other studios and produce a worthy Scorsese box set? I'm thinking about the Oliver Stone set, which had six different studios' films.

As long as we get new versions of Mean Streets and Goodfellas I'll be real happy, been holding on them for a while now! [IMG] After Hours would be sweet too though...

On August 14th there is going to be a Taxi Driver: Two-Disc Limited Edition released. $24.96

The current edition is a good one, but 7 or so years of DVD evolution since that disc was issued will do wonders for this film.

I'm not usually one to hope for things impossible, but since Warner is giving us a 5-disc Blade Runner, maybe it's possible to get Taxi Driver with the proper pre-MPAA-meddling color timing in the climactic sequence. I would love to have this film as Michael Chapman originally photographed it. I heard that Scorsese searched for the original elements for the scene when preparing the previous DVD but they couldn't be found. [IMG]

EDIT: My source is VPD Inc., which has been 100% reliable for as long as I've used them (nearly 5 years).

Source? Extras? Please tell me this'll have the famous criterion laserdisc commentary. There's only a few movies I would gladly rebuy. This is one of them.

    Regards,
    Nathan

If the new SE is released in R1, I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade the existing disc. Perhaps there will be news of a R1 SE soon....
