I had the R1, and was dismayed by the edge enhancement, which presented itself here in horizontal ringing. I later picked up the R2 from amazon.co.uk when it was cheap, and it was a good idea - the R2 is free of these artefacts, and is beautiful. If you're looking at the R2 because its cheap at CDwow right now, get it - its a superior edition of the film for peanuts!

The DVDTimes.co.uk review mentions mosquito noise and blocky gradients, but the reviewer thinks it is caused by transferring to DVD from the digital files, so I don't think he knows what he's talking about.
