You can find a review of Peter Bogdanovich's excellent 1968 Boris Karloff thriller Targets here. The DVD is due for release on August 12th.

Paramount have really made a name for themselves this year with many excellent new and back catalogue movies getting excellent treatment. Whilst most have reference quality, for their age, transfers and audio, some have an excellent selection of extra features too. A perfect example is this release of Targets.

The review states that "t’s a mystery then as to why this gem of a film is not so well known though it’s untimely release just before the 1968 assassination of JFK, forcing the distributors to keep the release low-key, couldn’t have helped." Actually, JFK was assassinated in 1963.

This movie sounds interesting. Any more opinions out there? Is it worth a blind purchase?

As Bogdanovich mentions in the featurette, Martin Luther King Jr was also assassinated in between completion and release, which didn't help any either. Too bad. It's a terrific debut film and Karloff is marvelous.

Hell yes, it's a terrific blind buy! Especially since you can get it so cheap. It's an amazing movie, one of my all-time favorites.

I can't say enough about this movie, and it's a terrific DVD by Paramount. They did a great job.
