I'm having problems with the following titles: MONTY PYTHON AND THE MEANING OF LIFE and TAKEN. My DVD player is the Pioneer DV-45A. The image blurs and smears with trails. However, when I turn off the PURE CINEMA the picture looks fine. Is the PURE CINEMA required?

Both of these titles have compatibility with certain progressive scan players. By turning off the PURE CINEMA function, you are letting the video be processed as interlaced rather than progressive content.

Compatible progressive content is the most desireable, but I'd take compatible interlaced content over the symptoms you're describing any day of the week.

I'm watching Taken in interlaced mode and it looks absolutely spectacular.

Short Anwser: When it works, go with PURE CINEMA mode. Otherwise, don't feel guilty doing what works.

Universal has a mail-in replacement for the problematic MOL disc 1. Replacement discs will ship in mid-Nov to folks who request them. There is a separate thread on this with more info.

Cheers,
