I know this has been a big buzz concept in the corporate world for a long time, but with my background in technical support in the education sector-- we never really had to deal with them.

Cans omeone take me to school on the blackberry technology, how it differs from standard PDA/Cell technology- and what backend stuff you run localy (any?) to get the most out of the technology?

I'd love to feel like I knew what the hell these things really did and why they are a popular solution versus anything else...

Here in DC, they're everywhere. Federal government employees, including Congress and their various critters, all seem to be carrying (issued?) Blackberries. As far as I can tell, it's not so much a PDA as it is some highly addictive form of crack cocaine absorbed through the hand. I don't know if your medical covers that.
