According to the Digital Bit's rumour mill, Richard Fleischer's "The Vikings" is out in may.
    Wohoo! [IMG]
Does anyone know if they've gone back to the original Technirama 35mm 8 perf neg's for this transfer (and hopefully preserved it first) thus giving an image quality to rival Vistavision and even 65mm....
Also does anybody know if the legendary stereo tracks have turned up (if they even existed in the first place) and if they are going to be used or remixed in some way?
    Regards to all

Great! Now if someone would just release The Long Ships, my quest for films about my ancestors will be complete.

THE VIKINGS has a great cast (Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis, Janet Leigh) and lots of tremendous action, but it would be worth buying for its excellent music score alone. Once you hear Mario Nascimbene's theme from THE VIKINGS, you'll remember it forever.

This is good news, I first saw this movie on a black and white TV with subtitles when I was a kid, I can still remember the score to this day, I also remember the Cameron Mitchell’s knock offs, “The last Viking” and “ Fury of the Vikings”, I don’t think I’ve seen this two since then.

This is a good movie, but please brothers and sisters MGM is gonna give this about a 22 cent budget. I am not happy about it at all. It will be a below average transfer for 9.95 and no booklet. Why bother.

    Great news indeed!

This was the first movie that I actually "fell in love with". I was 7 years old when it was released and my grandmother took me to a matinee showing. There were a lot of other old ladies in the audience. When Kirk Douglas' eye was ripped out by the hawk in the first 10 minutes they were all complaining, but all I could think was "cool". I was in movie heaven!

Hope it's a good transfer, and PLEASE MGM, ANAMORPHIC. I'm holding on to my LD at least unitl I get the new release in my hands
