“He’s been proper naughty, guv. Did a blag at Barclays with a shooter. Reckon we should feel his collar and give his drum a spin?”
Ah, London slang or, as my English teacher put it, slanguage.

Wasn't this a TV series? Do the films make sense if you've never seen the show?

Yes, it was four series of one hour episodes, 53 in all, but they were all self-contained as are these films. You don’t need to have seen the show to understand the films.

I loved the TV series ... but I think John Thaw's highlight was starring as Kavanagh QC -- and Dennis Waterman's defining role was in Minder. And I wish I'd seen him as Oliver Twist in 'Oliver' ... his alternate star, Keith Hamshere, is featured on the original cast album. He's very good but it would have been interesting to hear the young Dennis.

Dennis did do a soundtrack album. He’s on this track and is very good. A lot better than the film version, I think.

Wow. What a find. I'll have to track down a copy. I think Keith Hamshere on the original London cast album is slightly better .. a more touching effort .. but it's a great time capsule and I agree that it's far better than the Oliver on the film soundtrack (who was actually the director's daughter as the child actor couldn't sing).
I presume you already have the original London cast album. If you don't, do yourself a favour ... it's sensational and easily found on Ebay very cheaply here's a current English Ebay listing for only three pounds or so.
