I am not sure what happened, but I knew there was trouble when that awful horrific smell of burned board filled the room. This stated when ANH was played at the scene where alderaan was blown. I finally noticed it was the Dayton. I had the Receiver at DDEX +5 for the sub. Bass in tone at +6, and the Subwoofer volume at 3/4. The HK DPR1001 was at -20 Db. The dayton works fine and I had to adjust all settings to take bass out of the sub. Anyone having issues with the trilogy? The LFE are way out there on this release. This had never before happened with this setting. Last time I had something like this was with a Kenwood HTB and Titan AE DVD which made the Kenwood passive sub snap, crackle, and pop...

Sounds like you may need to foot the $$ for a better sub for the SPL that you are looking for, or turn it down. Without knowing specifics, 3/4 on the plate amp and those receiver settings sounds like you are pushing that sub to within inches of its life on a regular basis. Hopefully, it is just the amp and it can be replaced.

Can you tell us how big the room is that the sub is in, if your system is calibrated, and the level of reference from dolby reference?

Those settings are too high for the Dayton IMO. Is that calibrated to blend with the rest of your system? If so then you must listen at really high levels! My friend had his Dayton set at similar levels and I was watching a movie at his house and the mix was WAY too bass heavy. He was more satisfied with the overall sound after he turned down the sub level to about 1/2 at my suggestion.

Who should I blame?

Me?
Dayton?
Lucas?
HK?

Mmmm, let's jump on the wagon, I'll blame the mix in ANH. Seriously, I think I'm trying to break the poor sub. Maybe it needs a new friend to help him out...

If everything's properly calibrated and you have "enough" sub for the job...one shouldn't have any problem.

To not have enough sub for the size of room/listening preferences...well no one to blame but one's self.

That's why so many people "go for the gold" when buying their subs...headroom is a great thing when called for. :D

Top on my xmas list. Will ask Santa Visa to get me one, or the "man" of the house. It'll go something like this:

"Honey, tell me again what that black cylinder thing is doing in the living room?"

"It's a water heater, it heats water through vibration"

"Wow, what technology does nowadays"

"And look, it even works with the HT"

"Great buy! You sure are smart"

Whatever...

That is some crazy level. My sub to produce reference levels is at about 1/4 on the plate amp and +0 on my receiver (this is on an SVS 16-46PCi). I haven't had a chance to listen to the trilogy yet because my receiver is in the shop but I can't wait to check it out

Wow. You were flogging the bejesus out of that dayton.

My plate is at 30% and reciever at -10dB! Even at those levels I didn't like the bass in the SW discs. Too hot in some scenes... and it didn't blend well, but that could be my fault. I just seemed like that when R2 fell over (when captured in the begining of ANH) I shouldn't have heard a bass kick.

I'm assuming you have a penchant for huge bass, you would definately LOVE a new 'hot water heater'.

I found the problem (and the solution). The sub was set in the L/R + LFE mode. I changed it to SUB(LFE). I tried the same scene (explosion of Alderaan) and no cries from the sub. Now the sync. problem with the movie's another story and another thread I know...

Your audio and video don't sync either!?!? I posted in the 'glitch' thread to get some leads on that... nothing.

Not even close compared to ATOC for instance, but certainly not bad . The only thing that consistent on the sound on this new release.

I know ATOC's LFE are reference to test your system. The problem here's that LFE are not in the right place it seems. For example, when the jawa shoots R2 it was way too much hump for this scene I say.

Pitch levels are horrible. The worst I've heard is when Han and Obi Wan talk during Luke's lightsaber training in ANH. Suddenly Obi's voice is clear, then Han sounds like he's talking into a metal cooking pot, then Obi talks and ditto. Then back to Han with a clear voice and then back again to the cooking pot. Same wiht Grand Morff Tarkin & Leia before testing the Death Star. Both take turns in the pot.Guys, I am not paranoid am I?
