Maybe the SVS folks can tell me if it would be possible for owners of the "original" PC series to upgrade to the "new" amplifier present on the PCi series. I already have a new driver on order.....

I believe the short answer is no (I think there's a post in the PCi thread already). But with the new woofer, you're only giving up a couple of dBs to the PCi, anyway.

Steve is right. The new amp is not the same size. We oriented it better to our cylinder enclosure.

If you have a late model PC, unless you are running it full volume (rare) there would be virtually no audible difference from the PCi.

Thanks Ron! Am am quite happy (and satisfied) with my current PC. I have a new version driver "on order". I just thought that there may be a bit more of a difference given the new 320 watt amp vs the old 190 watt one (although I KNOW that amp wattage is often misleading).

BTW, is the new PCi amp a development of the Klipsch BASH technology?

Bob,
Bash(R) is a licensed technology from Indigo Manufacturing, our Canadian amp maker. It just happens to be the same maker Klipsch uses in some cases.
You can read more about it here: http://www.bashaudio.com/indigo_home.html
We said we were swimming with the big fishes now! Bash is some pretty impressive stuff and make no mistake, nearly every component was honed to the SVS design. No "standard amp module" in our subs.

Ron,

I noticed that there is no variable phase knob on the new BASH amp, just a phase inversion toggle. Was this part of the cost saving compromise, or was it a sound quality (less delay) decision?

Neither.

Indigo isn't a big user of adjustable phase. Seems most consumers don't have a clue how to use them. 0-180 is usually enough (true), and they could produce it without major changes to our original prototypes.

We figured it was a minor compromise, and not one most folks would even see as a compromise.
