Hi there...I read SVS' write up on both of these subs and understand the difference in cost and contruction.

I was just curious if there is any audible difference between the 2 given that the PC's cylinders go up vs. the PB's going out. I have a 20x20 room and I'm considering a 5.1 SCS-01(M) Hi-output multi-channel system setup with one of these two subs. I'd look to save a few $$ if there is no significant difference.

Thanks,

Marc

Enclosure shape has nothing to do with how a sub sounds, only the net volume of the enclosure. They are so close in size that you probably can't tell the difference without measuring equipment.

I was emailing back and forth with a guy from svs and this is what he had to say: "There's no real performance difference between box/cylinder subs in a given line (say, PC12-NSD/PB12-NSD), just different form-factors."

I understand SVS' tutorial on construction and why one weighs more than the other, also taking what they say: enclosure has nothing to do with how a sud sounds.

My question is more specific, would there be any audible difference given one has its cylinders firing up vs one firing out. I guess you are saying no.

If one driver orientation had a specific advantage over the other then every subwoofer manufacturer would use it. The cylinder has a down firing driver because that's the only place to mount it. And for those people who like to prove me wrong - here's a cylinder sub with the driver's on the side - link.
