SVCHOST.exe - What is this? (1 Viewer)

What is svchost.exe? I find it odd that i have up to 5 instances of this file at once with the 'user name' of LOCAL SERVICE, NETWORK SERVICE, and SYSTEM... Do you guys have that many of the file open at once?

Could it be a virus?

Not a virus, a normal part of Windows 2000 & XP.

I had major issues with that exact same file when i first installed Win2K... Had to reformat.

What kind of problems have you had? So far, i've only had one big problem (Something about DWWIN.exe screwing up... it was my video card settings, i was screwing around with powerstrip and custom resolutions)
