I have my surrounds at Ear level, my bed is on the back wall, and my surrounds are at the corner on each side. Should I have them ear level or about 1 foot from Ear level

Many people (myself included) find they sound better 2-3 feet above ear level. That way you hear the sound coming from "somewhere back there" instead of from a specific speaker, so it's more realistic. It makes it harder for the ears to tell what direction the sound comes from.

i also agree that a little higher is better.

right now my speakers are right beside my couch and it does get distracting to hear the sound right next to you instead of coming "somewhere" from behind.

btw - i've got direct speakers. dipoles are a different game...

I have my surround speakers a few feet above my head. If I remember correctly, Dolby also recomends placing the surround speakers several feet above the listening position.
