Is there a source listing all DVDs that actually contain the EX flag, not just EX encoded? I've found lists of EX encoded DVDs, but nothing specific to the EX flag.

For what it is worth...I think From Hell has the flag, because it automatically switches to THXsuroundEX on my receiver and that is the only DVD that I have seen that do that.

Wes, try DVDphD.com (I hope that's right)they have a list of DD EX & DTS ES titles. It is a bit confusing on the way they mark what is what ( you'll see what I mean)but they have a pretty good list of them.

Jurassic Park III and both editions of Disney's Atlantis carry the Dolby EX flag.

Considering the problems THX-EX had with those flags,
has Dolby decided to start using them again? I would
guess if "From Hell" has them, they have. How does
Dolby decide which films get them?

As I understand it, Dolby just sells encoders to the studios. It's up to them to use or not use certain features.

I guess I misunderstood the question, I thought you were asking which titles had the EX flag set so that your dvd player could automatically detect it was a EX title. Not if the film was recorded with Dolby EX cuz not every EX title has that flag set.

    Ken,

You were correct in your first impression. I wanted to know which DVDs contained the EX Flag. I've found only two at this point Atlantis and Jurassic Park III.

Think you can add Pearl Harbor to the list, at least my Onkyo 898 thinks it does.

    Gerard,

My Integra does not detect an EX flag, at least on the first release version of Pearl Harbor. The display should read 3/3.1 when the EX flag is properly detected(Atlantis and Jurassic Park III).

    Thanks,

If I recall correctly, only the French language track on Pearl Harbor has the EX flag. However, that was actually an encoding error, as Pearl Harbor (French or otherwise) is not a 6.1 mix.

Do a search of Onkyo 898 and Pearl Harbor thread seems to indicate DD EX Flags were
responsibe for audio dropouts on some Onkyo and other receivers.

    Wes,

I rechecked and The 797 does jump into "THX SURR EX" When EX is set to Auto, at the begining of Atlantis, However it does read DD 3/2.1.

    Curious,

    Jay_Leonard,

I rechecked Atlantis. My Integra DTR-9.1 does detect the flag and the display reads 3/3.1. Maybe someone with a 989 can confirm. The display difference may just be a factor of model.

    Wes, you are the Bomb,

I Wonder if the Dropout problem that the Onkyo 797 thread is discussing could have nothing to do with EX flags...

Atlantis is a great mix huh,...
