Surge "Protector" info...? (1 Viewer)

OK, I looked at the thread a ways down, and it was way over my head. All I got out of it was that nothing was ever completely safe, even with a so-called surge protector. So, I just want to know, is it better to use one of the $40 ones than none at all? I probably have only $1200 worth of equipment, so it's not as big of deal as some of you crazy bastards if I lose something . Any basic , simple , easy for a moron like myself to understand info is welcome, thanks.
