In Japan, there was a third party internet browser made. Sony, AFAIK, isn't making one but a third party can make one if they want. Not sure if one is being made, but I would assume so.

Im not sure if it was the PS2, or xbox, but one of these companies say that they're not going to support internet browsing to keep a distinction between PC's and consoles.

MS was the one that said no keyboards/browser etc. The PS2 already supports keyboards and tehn with the network adapter, it's drop dead easy.
Of course, you could always buy the Linux kit for it... [IMG]

...in which case you'd still have to hunt around for a browser unless you really like Lynx. [IMG]

Um, several have attempted to compile Mozilla for PS2Linux -- and, after waiting for the 4 hour+ compilation, still had no luck. Of course, part of the problem is that making changes and trying again takes another 4 hours -- which tends to make things go a little slow.

I haven't checked lately, but last I check (a month or so ago), they still didn't have Mozilla -- or any other graphical browser -- running under ps2linux...

Give it time, there will be a PS2 browser in the near future, whether it's some stand-alone app, something thrown onto a demo disk, or a backend in a released game.

Does a usb keyboard work with the ps2 online apps? I found the virtual keyboard a pain when configuring.

You could always get the PS2 Linux kit and surf the web with that.

Sony was supposed to strike deals with a bunch of companies for different things, like Real Networks for streaming video and Netscape for a browser (which they had running at E3 2001) but they decided not to include it with the NA setup disc.

well you got pretty lucky cuz alot of people can't find one. I'VE got one so no big deal, but my buddy and i are having a tough time finding one for him in the greater PHX area.

btw...you got your NA this morning or found a browser disk??
