And asked you to pick the DVD player with the best video quality, progressive scan, for an HDTV. Dont have DVI on the TV so component cable throughput is crucial. Dont need fancy formats, just flat out picture quality for DVD movies. 1080i over the component cables would be sweet. Will consider overseas models. 400 dollars tops.

heres the catch.. *no discontinued models* must be currently in production...

    What would you pick??

The LiteOn LVD-2001, well under $400. Discontinued for sale in the US, but still in production for sale overseas, can also still be purchased here at a couple places, including Ebay and Samstores.com. Substantially better video quality using 1080i than the combination of Pioneer Elite DV-37 being run through an Iscan Ultra that has now been replaced in my system by the LiteOn. As a bonus, it will play any DVD from around the world.
