Superman - The Movie. . . .one-sided disk? (1 Viewer)

I picked up this DVD used, and was surprised (and dismayed) to find that it is only one-sided (though the menu makes reference to a side B). So it is missing the documentaries, deleted scenes and screen tests. What is this version that I picked up? I didn't realize there was anything released other than the 2-sided special edition.

I bought it for $14.99 @ BestBuy when it was released last year. Super clean video and excellent 5.1 audio.

Gary,

This may just be a production error. If so, you should be able to return the disc (even if it is used) and exchange it for another copy. Of course, if one disc had an error like that, a lot of others probably did, too.

Gary,
maybe what he means is that there is no real label as to what side the supplements are on.
Both sides read "Superman the Movie" and not "Supplements"

Superman is available in Region 2 Japan as a
three-disc set, Disc 1 is the Special Edition on a
DVD-9. Disc 2 is the Special Features on another DVD-9.
Disc 3 is Superman II on a DVD-9. I have this
set and it's excellent. For anyone who dislikes DVD-18,
it's the only way to get the first movie on a single-sided
disc.
The one being described in this thread may have been a
production error. A disc meant for R2 but being pressed
as an R1, perhaps.

I got this DVD on eBay, so I didn't have a chance to look at it before buying it. The disk itself has full "Superman-The Movie" artwork on one side. It came in a keepcase, and there is a yellow circle in the bottom right hand corner of the front cover which says "DVD 9". Kevin, is yours like this as well?

I thought the Superman movies came in snappers. I haven't bought the first 2, the ones I want, so I can't check. But I could have sworn they are packaged in snappers.

Definitely a bootleg. If nothing else, the "DVD 9" gives it away.

It seems that there are bootlegs of this disc for sale on ebay. I won't post any links, but if you do a search for "Superman DVD" at ebay you'll certainly find them.

Caveat emptor.

Gary,

Yes, my DVD has full artwork on one side. But it
doesn't say DVD-9 on the cover and it came in
a keepcase a picture of with Superman flying
forward, his fist extended, and almost all the
text on the back is in Japanese.

It could be you've got the official R2 DVD-9 disc
in an unofficial (i.e. bootlegged) DVD case, or
it could be that the disc you've got is also a
bootleg, but whoever made it must be very good
at reproducing artwork on discs.

The pirates have gotten VERY good at producing professional packaging. Sometimes it's even nicer than the real thing (unfortunately)

My non-bootleg Superman says "Superman: The Movie Expanded Edition" on the inner ring of both sides of the disc.

Back cover shows: Dual side DVD-18.

WB does make it hard to figure out which is Side A vs. B.

I'm guessing the numbers on the ring (1013.1.A and 1013.1.B) are Side A vs. B indicators. The word "Side" is absent.

Can somebody else look at their disc and verify the above info?

Yes

No bootlegger is going to bother making DVD-18, since most people hate it, it has a high failure rate, and is hard to make

For what it's worth, I reported the bootleg copy of Superman - The Movie at ebay, and the auction has been closed.
