So I now have a 16x9 TV, and coupled with my progressive scan DVD player, I can appreciate the difference of SuperBit DVDs. I have done some reading and it seems there are discs worth getting, and others that aren't because of transfer reusage.

That are the opinions about Snatch, Fifth Element and Das Boot.

In another thread someone mentioned an offical Superbit website, but I can't find it.

What review sites would you recommend, or urge to stay away from...

In the case of any of them, the superbit is superior to the non-sb release. Some are far better some are subtley better.

Fifth Element, Dracula, Das Boot, Desperado and Crouching Tiger were major impovements IMO.

Resident Evil, while an excellent Superbit release, is not that much better than the Special Edition, which does not have the dts track.

The same goes for Mask of Zorro, though the SE already has the dts track.

Yeah, the only one I own so far is crouching tiger, been planning to pick up the Fifth Element one though. I was very impressed with the quality of it.

I think Columbia's Superbit line is great, and I'll keep on purchasing the titles I like from them. Whenever a studio puts the entire movie on a dual-layer disc with little on no extras, the transfer benefits. It's not for everybody, but for people who demand the best video and sound from DVD, the improvement shows.

    Keep the Superbits coming!

I did some more review reading. Heavy Metal 2000 and Patriot didn't show substantial video improvements.

I noticed an improvement with every comparison I have done: Men In Black, The Patriot, and Heavy Metal (first movie).

I'm also a fan of the SuperBit collection. I'll happily sacrifice extras that I never have time to watch anyway for superior audio and video.

If you're a fan of Triple X, that's another pickup.

I have a few SB titles. The only one I am really waiting for is Spiderman.

Does anyone know if the newer SB releases still feature the seamless layer change? I have Mask of Zorro SB Deluxe and the layer change is not seamless, but all of my other SB titles do have seamless layer changes.

My only wish is that sony would release the 'super bit' DVD from the get-go...and load up any "SE extras" on a 2nd disc.

It's bothersome to buy an SE DVD only to then find out about a super-bit option later.

2-disc SE can make both goals a reality in the same packaging. And consumers can win.

    Craig,

Spider-Man is rumored to be coming out in the last quarter batch of Superbits.

I've been waiting for 'Sense and Sensibility' on Superbit. It was on the poll they had on their website a few months back. It's a beautiful film with really soft photograhy that should benefit from superbit. DTS wouldn't make a difference, but the picture might (although the current one is pretty lovely).

I'm all over Spidey when it comes out!

The Fifth Element is a good one, but too bad the movie's horrible (IMO).

Ron, The Fifth Element is rather brilliant, IMO, of course. [IMG]

What's really annoying is finding out about the Superbit releases that are not Region 1 and have been out in Europe for quite a while . If you Google search on Superbit releases , you'll find titles like Final Fantsy , Godzilla and more .

    What's up with that ?

I've seen the following in SUPERBIT form:

    DESPERADO
    LEGENDS OF THE FALL
    VERTICAL LIMIT
    THE MASK OF ZORRO

and i'd say that they all showed to me a significant
improvement (less noticible on Legends) in the areas of colors, detail and image quality over the regular editons! That doesn't include the improvement of the DTS either!
