I'm really into (what I call) the "Green Day" knock off bands. Basically it's that punk/fun rock stuff. Here are some of my favotites (to give you a better idea of what I'm looking for):

A New Found Glory - Dressed To Kill
A New Found Glory - Boy Crazy
Andrew W.K. - We Want Fun
Blink 182 - All the Small Things
Bowling for Soup - Ohio (Come Back To Texas)
Bowling for Soup - Life After Lisa
Bowling For Soup - Down For The Count
    Butch Walker - My Way
Fountains of Wayne - Stacy's Mom
Good Charlotte - Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous
Good Charlotte - Girls & Boys
    Good Charlotte - Riot Girl
Good Charlotte - The Day That I Die
Riddlin' Kids - I Feel Fine
Simple Plan - (Every song) [IMG]
    SR71 - Kick Me When I'm High
    Sugarcult - Memory
Sugarcult - How Does It Feel
Zebrahead - Playmate Of The Year

Hopefully that's a good sampling to give you an idea of what I'm looking for. I guess "Bowling for Soup" is the best band to compare this fun/punk stuff to.

Can anyone suggest bands (that aren't well known) that fit this category? They have to be heavy, but not really heavy. They need that melodic/fun/alternative sort of edge to them.

I am big on European Pop/Rock/Dance and pick up the British version of Now That's What I Call Music. On the current volume (#60), there is a song that fits the bill perfectly: "Do This! Do That" by Freefaller. Not sure if they are available in the US, but I think you'd like it.

Eric, I checked out Freefaller on iTunes and they only had 2 of their songs (i.e. "Good Enough for You" and "Thousand Times a Day"), but I may get them both.

Rob, There were a ton of songs from the bands you listed. In quickly listening to a few songs, those are definite possibilities. [IMG]

    Mark,
    Here's a few that I've found lately.
    No Motiv - Independence Day
No Motiv - Into the Darkness
Actually, the whole No Motiv CD Daylight Breaking is very good.
    1208 - My Loss
    1208 - Fall Apart
    Yellowcard - Breathing
    Letter Kills - Radio Up
Amber Pacific - Always You Good Times
From 1st to Last - Populace in Two

I actually had never heard of most of these bands until I played Burnout 3 - Takedown on my xbox. That game has a great soundtrack.

Reggie and the Full Effect - Greatest Hits 1984-1987 and Promotional Copy are must-haves. Their latest, Songs not to Get Married to is so-so.

The Descendents are my favorite band.

If you like Green Day, checkout the stuff on the Lookout Record lable.

Pinhead Gunpowder features Billy Joe on vocals.
    The Wynona Riders
    Samiam
Maybe some Screetching Weasel, Monsula, Mr. T Experience, or Jawbreaker. All these bands came out of the same scene as Green Day and around the same time. Operation Ivy is a mix of Punk and Ska.

Another band that is one of my favorites is Naked Raygun.

I tend to stay away from the stuff currently on the radio.
You can't go wrong with the Clash, Sex Pistols, and the Damned. Old Misfits is the best. I respect them for what they do now but it's just not the same.
