Can anyone recommend good DVD authoring software that will allow me to make good custom menus? I just bought a DVD burner but the software that came with it (Sonic MyDVD) is too generic and limiting.

Depends on how you define "good"

For making custom motion menus you're looking at spending at least $500, but since you already have MyDVD you may be able to upgrade cheaper to DVDit!

Brian,

My burner came with Ulead VideoStudio 6 software. I use it in conjunction with Ulead DVD Movie Factory which is available as a 30 day trial. Ulead DVD Movie Factory has a varied amount of menu templates but no motion menu option.

I capture and edit .avi(s) with VirtualDub, then encode the .avi to .mpeg2 with TMPGEnc and then author the disc with Ulead DVD Movie Factory. Ulead DVD Movie Factory can encode the .avi but I find it to be a bit slow as opposed to TMPGEnc. Ulead DVD Movie Factory can also capture video in either .avi or .mpeg format.

Try downloading the trial version of Ulead DVD Movie Factory and work with it to see if you like it.

Regards,
-Gary

I've got all the same programs you have except the ULEAD stuff. i'll try getting the trial version and see where that leads me.
