during a search of the forum I found the Monster Cable cleaner. But, is there any household cleaners that work well? Anything I should stay away from?

Which part do you want to clean?

Regardless, I never use anything more aggressive than a moist sponge.

The screen is what I'm looking to clean. My 2 year old likes to point to the cartoon characters and during a recent movie I really noticed the smudges.

Distilled water, mild detergent, and an optical-grade polishing cloth (two of them, actually). If distilled water and detergent are too much to deal with, get an amonia-free spray solution for cleaning eye glasses or computer monitors.

Apply solution to cloth, and then wipe the screen in gentle up-and-down motions. Use the dry cloth to wipe away any streaking.
