Does it matter where you but your sub in relation to your theater. I heard that you get better sound if its further away from you.

Ian, typically, placement for a sub is in one of the front corners. This will position your sub farther away than your other speakers. The low frequency sound waves from the sub are much longer than say your mains or center, so this position works well. The corner placement also tends to reinforce the lower frequency sound.

Try doing a search here on HTF for sub placement, and I'm sure you'll find much more scientific and technical info on this subject.

I have one of those entertainment centers in the corner of my living room. There is a triangle in back where I crawl into to hook things up (and where my cat get's stuck).

My sub woofer is behind it facing the corner and it seems to work well. The whole house rattles during U-571!
