Subwoofer not working when fully plugged in (1 Viewer)

I recently moved my onkyo HTIB and when I got it all set up again, the subwoofer wouldnt work. I heard a slight rattling inside, so I took off the back and found some orange thing that looks like a binkie with wings on it

So I took it out...anyway, I went to replug it in and the sub only works when the wire going into the receiver rubs the outside of the input on the receiver. When I plug it in though, it cuts out. Why is this happening?! Thanks in advance.

Was the orange thing hanging by wires that you clipped?

Also try a different cable from the subwoofer unit to the receiver.

I didnt clip any wires, I just unscrewed the back and saw the orange piece like dangling there. I'll go to radioshack today and pick up a new wire.
