    My first post!
I recently purchased a set of Paradigm Titan, cc-170 and
Atoms for my new 51"RP HD Sony. Powered by a Sony receiver.

    ... my question is:
I need to upgrade my old Yamaha 8" sub... just doesnt match the level of my new speakers.

Thought about DYI but, not sure if Id have the time...or, tools. In a med room, 11x19 with a 60/40 mix of movie/music
what would you recommend in the 200-350 dollar range:
    Yamaha sw-yst315- $299
PE Dayton kit dick vance model $349
    Paradigm PDR-10 $349
*these choices are probably more than I can afford at this time:
    *Velodyne CHT 399
    *HSU- ST2? 399

Would any of the cheaper choices be close to the last?
(Im hoping for more than just a loud thump)

Well if you have Paradigm all around, why not just stick with their suggested sub...we're running a sale on the PDR-10 right now, with it going for $299, and they're flying out the door with various Paradigm sets. Great sub for such a little box.

well, after hanging round this forum recently... it seemed I could do better for the money than the Paradigms.
    Opinions?

I think in the US, you could do better than the pdr-10 for that amount of money.

Lots of talk about the Hsu STF-2 these days, and I think it's around $350 at whichever B&M store it is carrying it now.

I owned the pdr-10, but I paid $375CAD for it. Just upgraded to the wonderful pw-2100 for $700CAD (~$500US) though and loving it.

HSU STF-2 (at CompUSA) or Adire Rava for $399+shipping. Save a little more and get the better sub. You won't regret it.

I had a nicer Yamaha sub than the 315 and it still was nowhere near as good as my VTF-2.

The Hsu and the PE Titanic kit are the best options on your list. The Hsu STF-2 is no longer $349 at Comp USA, it's back to $399.

Hey Allan just thought I'd recomend looking into the SVS...they are a bit more than your budget. I have been researching on this webpage forever and at audioreview.com for a decent subwoofer upgrade. I was going to go with the Paradigm PDR-10 but I saved up a bit more and decided as of yester to pick up the SVS PCi-20-39. I too am also running the Titans with the CC-170 off of a Yamaha RX-V430. It's a great little setup and a step up from my Kenwood HTIB.

I just picked up a PDR-10 for ~$280 at my local Paradigm shop. I can't vouch for the SVS subs, but people here seem to love them. Just my $0.02...
