Subwoofer cable with RG59 or RG6? (1 Viewer)

I plan to make a sub cable using pre-determined CATV cables and F-to-RCA adapters. I've got some RG59 cables lying around the house, is this enough or do I need RG6? My run will be less than 6ft.

In addition, I'll need a Y-connection to my two sub inputs, could I just use an inexpensive 4" long unshielded RCA Y-splitter?

Thanks. Reg

There is not high voltage being carried from the receiver out to the sub input. Many interconnects are 22 to 30 ga. so RG-59 is more than adequate. There are also ltd. frequencies being carried to the sub. A Y connection. is not mandatory. If you want to use one they can be bought for just over $1 from places like:

I'm sure Radio Shack has them as well. The more expensive ones will of course come with better connectors but none of them should be that expensive. You can always try the one you have and if there is interference buy a better one.

I agree with Phil. Coax is rated/judged by the UPPER frequency roll-off. Subwoofer frequencies are trivial for nearly any coax.

Just one thing: I have found that subwoofer cables seem sensitive to how snug the RCA plugs are. Make sure yours are snug-fitting with lots of surface contact.
