I emailed SVS already and thought I would post the message here for additional input.

Hello. I have 20-39 PCi and am getting a slight hum from it. It is so slight
I wonder if I'm just being overly picky, and have let it slide for awhile.
But the curious part of me would like to at least have an answer, whether
"that's just the way it is" or something practical.

I am pretty positive it is not a ground loop problem as I have tried the
standard test of removing the antenna/satellite cable connections from my
system. Also since the power cable is two prong I figure that is not the
    issue.

The hum goes away when I turn the receiver volume all the way down or when
my DVD player is switching around the disc and apparently is not sending any
kind of audio signal to the receiver. One thing that affects the volume of
the hum is the crossover switch on the sub. When I switch it to "Enabled"
the hum is less noticeable. I am wondering if something is going bad in my
receiver's crossover circuitry if this is the case.

Sounds like the sub is amplifying a hum that comes from somewhere upstream, perhaps the DVD player or the cable from the DVD to the Rec.

I have tried other sources besides the DVD player and the the hum is present regardless of source. As I said, the hum is very slight, and have for awhile considered it just a quality of amplification. So perhaps a more pertinent question is if it is realistic to expect dead silence from low to moderate range equipment?

BTW there is no detectable hum when the sub is disconnected from the system.

What kind of receiver do you have?

Also, did you have this problem on a previous sub?

I have an Onkyo 575x. The sub I had before was a Sony SA-WM40. I believe the hum was also present but I can't say for certain. When I got the SVS I became a little pickier I think.

I work at an electronic retailer, and had a customer that had the same problem with a sunfire sub. He solved it with a monster power line conditioner. He thought it was most likely being caused by interference with a new (massage)chair that he just bought, but never really found out what it was.
We also have the same problem with one of the subs at the store (JBL E150P). All I do to fix it is rock it back a bit, and it seems to go away. Bad example, cause I KNOW it's interference on that one, just too lazy to fix it.

I got a Better Cables Silver Serpent cable from SVS and that seems to have solved it. I'll post back if I experience anything different.
