I could use some advice on which would be the best sub in the $500-600 range for my current setup.

    center - cc370

    mains - studio20

    surrounds - adp70

    sub - infinity bu120 (150watt)

receiver - cheap sony545 (next replacement after sub, most likely denon or onyko).

The infinity sub is the only holdover from my previous setup and needs replacing now (boomy, muddy....)

The only requirement beyond good specs is that a new sub look like the infinity, black box,(eliminates the preferred forum choice of svs)because of the "wife decorator police".

    Any suggestions are very appreciated.

I believe the Hsu VTF-2 and the Adire Rava (it is Adire, isn't it?) are the popular choices in this price range for a box sub.

Did you look at the Paradigm PS-1200? I have the PS-1000 and it performs very well. It can take any thing I throw at it with ease.

No offense Brian, but Zeev stay far away from the PS series subs. Bandpass, yuck.
I would reccomend the Adire Dharman at that price point. It will for sure match, but more than likely beat a PW2200 for only $599.
Another option would be to contact Kyle Richards of Acoustic Visions. He will costum build you the best sub he can within your budget. He offers just raw drivers/amps with some advice. The driver/amp with a flat kit that you can assemble. Or a fully assembled sub.

You could also try for a SVS20-39CS. The tricky part would be finding the right amp for $150 bucks. This one from Parts Express should do the trick (you just have to build a simple little box for it).

Just make sure you get it with the boost disabled, or have someone who can do the soldering to disable the boost for you/change it to the 1dB boost at 25hz with the 17hz corner frequency described in the PDF file linked to from that link.
Edit: woops, should have read the whole post :p)

I would recommend the Paradigm PW2200, or the Mirage BPS-400. I've never heard the Adire, but hear nothing but good things. If I didn't get the SVS I would have gotten one of the two afore mentioned.
