    My old sub has died.

What is the best sub I can get for the $700 range?

Is it necessary get the same brand as my center and front speakers?

    I have a vaulted ceiling peaking at 16' H x 16' W x 12 D.

I sit about 9' from TV a little to the left of center.

I know I need at least 12" subwoofer.

A sub does not need to match your other speakers. Definitely look at SVS and Hsu. The SVS 25-31 would probably fit the bill and come in under budget even after shipping. If you don't like the looks of the cylinder then the PB12-NSD would be in budget as well.

Seth mentions 2 good choices. The difference is that the 25-31 is tuned to 25HZ, while the PB-12 NSD is tuned to 18Hz. If you want to plumb the depths, get the PB-12 NSD, if you want a little more volume, but miss the deepest tones, get the 25-31.
