I know that this may open a big can of worms but...

I am using a very thin cable between my AVR and my sub. I will not spend megabucks on specialty cables but will I hear a difference if I used an AR sub cable or something similarly priced, over what I am currently using? I want to stay in the $25-40 price range.

Edit: The lenght needs to be no more than 6-8 feet..

Use some coax and some adaptors from radio shack. I am too lazy to do the search myself, but look for a post of mine in the DIY section. There are some other posts about making your own sub cable as well. It is really easy. You probably have a few feet of coax lying around your house anyways.

I as using about 30 feet of zip cord for my sub before. It really didn't change the sound at all when I switch to 50 feet (that is all Rat Shack had) of coax.

I got a 25' AR sub cable from Meijer not too long ago for $10. A lot of their AR cables were on sale (also got a 3' optical cable for $7). Don't know if they still are.

Best Buy carries the 15' AR sub cable for $15 and the 25' for around $20.

You can go really cheap and get a 10ft 75 ohm coaxial cable with RCA plugs for $3.00 here. It would be the same thing as making your own from coax at Radio Shack.
