I am VERY impressed with the line up of episodes.

While they are all great episodes, I am excited about the following ones :

TWELVE ANGRY MEN - This didn't exist complete till a print turned up in a private collection only a few years ago!

1984 - This pre-dates the BBC version by almost a year - Eddie Albert plays Winston Smith! (This was actually rumored to be lost!)

THE ARENA - A "lost" Rod Serling Drama about a newley elected Senator and the challenges that he faces.

DINO - Sal Mino in the original TV drama that later become the film of the same name - he stared in both.

I hope these have been transfered via Live Feed,or atleast The Da Vinci Process!

Now,if only we could get a PLAYHOUSE 90 release!

Amazing to see "Studio One" receiving such care. I'm also very intrigued by this set. In addition to Serling's "The Arena", the set also features his teleplay for "The Strike"--both of which were directed by Franklin J. Schaffner.

This set will likely be the definitive "Studio One" release. Most of what I've seen of this series comes from Alpha Video, so there's no restoration work done on those releases, though they're watchable. But I thought the Canadian company, Video Service Corp., did a reasonably good job with their series of SO releases several years back. You could play each episode with or without the Westinghouse commercials. They're still available.

I have some Studio One eps in a Mill Creek movie collection, and I love them! Been hoping that somebody'd release a set of them! Hope they end up releasing every ep ever made!

These anthology series from the 50's (Studio One and similar) were some of the best things ever made!!

I think it's great to see Studio One come out as well. I just wish they did a more comprehensive release, one with more episodes. There were 400+ made. As it stands, it's sort of like one of those CBS/Paramount split-season releases.

I'll be picking this set up at some point (sale). I was slightly disappointed that we didn't get the Christmas episode on this one though. But I understand that picking episodes for a set like this is based on big name celebs and not sentimentality. Still, I really would like to see the Christmas-themed episode from this series.

Brian, as always, I appreciate your lists, and it is interesting to see episodes from this series strewn over several different releasing companies. I can confirm that the first episode of season 5, "The Kill" with Grace Kelly, appeared on a dollar DVD from Digiview that I picked up at Walmart some time ago. I have no idea as to whether Digiview is still manufacturing and distributing DVDs; it may very well be now out of print.

I'd really love to know how many episodes from this series survive today.

I was thinking about that myself after reading the announcement. My Mother has told me about both "shows" and their quality. I'd like to see a 50's take on 1984...I've only ever seen the one with John Hurt as Winston Smith.

Funny thing about The Arena. IIRC the popular story goes that Serling's experience with the censors over the original script (which party is the one we're supposed to identify with, what's the issue etc.) was directly responsible for him creating "that Twilighty show about that Zone".

As always, Brian, thanks for the update. You've really brought a number of the dramatic anthology series to your list this time around. A completed series that Timeless just released is "The Adventures of Sir Lancelot" (30 episodes). They have also released "William Tell" and "The Buccaneers" but both of those series are incomplete (30 of 39 episodes). However, Mill Creek's release of "The Buccaneers" is complete. You might also want to add Mill Creek's "Sherlock Holmes" 1954-55 series, another series which is complete.

Great news about STUDIO ONE. 12 ANGRY MEN will be a real coup!

I seem to recall that several "Playhouse 90'S" were committed to film (MASSACRE AT SAND CREEK, NO TIME AT ALL, THE CONSTANT HUSBAND. HOMEWARD BORNE, and CLIPPER SHIP) by Screen Gems and were offered as part of movie packages in syndication. Do they still exist in the Sony vaults?

Is there any word on the remaining 30 episodes of SUSPENSE or is that a lost cause?

Re Mill Creek releases of Studio One material. The Dark Crimes set has The Man Who Had Influence, There Was a Crooked Man, Two Sharp Knives, Flowers from a Stranger, and Plan for Escape; Historic Classics has The Nativity and Pontius Pilate, plus The Night America Trembled. There's probably others as well.

Prints are reasonable PD quality.
