Lewis,
Jack and I both are planning on using our Blueprint 1803's with Linkwitz Transform Circuits. I think Jack was looking at a 7ft^3 enclosure with an effective volume around 9ft^3 (after stuffing) and I'm probably going with a 4ft^3 enclosure with an effective volume of around 5ft^3 (after stuffing).
I think we may both need to up our homeowner's insurance after this!

Thanks Brian!
What exactly the LT circuit do?
Will the box be sealed?

quote: Jack, what kinda sub you're gonna build with the Blueprint 18"?[design].[/quote]
As Brian says, my intent at the moment is to go with a Linkwitz-transformed sealed design in about 7 ft.^3 or so. With this driver and some power, I should be able to achieve flat response to below 10Hz with quite usable SPL (my room is only 1400 ft^3). Here's a good article on the LT circuit:

I have to say, though, that a ported design, 14ft^3 tuned to 18Hz/8" port, looks spectacular.

I am thinking about putting my 2 1803s in 30cuft tuned to 20Hz using a 12"x8" square port but I am not 100% certain as of yet.

Yes it is a shame Jack, we would have some fun! :)
Julian, Not very big. :)
I used to have a 20x15 room but about 6 months ago I moved into a house with a smaller living room.
You can see where my current dual Tempest is and where I have the 4x4 space set aside for a huge subwoofer...of course the sub won't be 4x4 because it won't fit in the house.
(EDIT: I was board today so I redid the drawing to show my entire house.)

Well, I just checked the FedEx website and it says my 1803 has been delivered! Damn, and I won't get home until 5PM or so! Oh the agony! :)

FedEx delivered mine this morning. Man, this thing is big and heavy. I just had to do what any self-respecting goofball would do, so I sat it on the floor, hooked up a plate amp, and ran 20Hz through it. What fun! :)

Jack,
Damn you! You got yours first! You must work from home!? I'll have to try the 20Hz thing today! Oh my poor dogs are gonna love this!

We should really start a new thread for this driver and its apps...
I am really tempted to at least try a ported alignment first. 14ft.^3 tuned to 18Hz with an 8"-10" port would be ungodly. I really like the idea of doing a PR box, also, but I don't want to build such a large box. With ported, I can go with Sonotube. I mean, how many popular commercial subs, like the Ariel 12", would that equal? $12,000-$15,000 worth?

Jack,
I agree! I'd love to try the ported sub but I just don't have the room. Also, I'd to try the LT circuit for possible side business reasons in the future. If it works well it might be a good way to sell someone a huge 18" sub in a relatively small enclosure!
Brian
P.S. Do you want to start the new thread or shall I?
P.P.S. Damn! I didn't realize this thing was THIS BIG! Playing that 20Hz sine wave was fun! I can't wait to get this thing up and running!

"Big" isn't the word. :) I can't believe how heavy it is. I hope I get a box done before I get really busy.
How about you start the thread on the 1803, Brian, and maybe summarize what we've discussed, and we'll get people's ideas/opinions.

Good idea with a new topic Jack and Brian!Jack, could you please take some pictures of the driver and post them here(a kind of softporno for us DIY enthusiasts!)
The shipping cost, customs and taxes brings the total cost up to 450$, why do we europeans always get punished for living on the wrong side of the atlantic?!?!

10cuft,18 Hz tuning and 1000watts looks promising, even a AVA 250 should do pretty well!
