I would like to know if and when Stripes is coming on DVD
This is a classic movie with a fantastic ensemble cast such as Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, John Candy, etc.

Hmmm; although I love the film, I can't recall viewing it over again since I got my Widescreen TV. I recall enjoying the DVD on my old 27" TV and not having complaints about the transfer, so it must at least be adequate.

But if an SE is coming, I'd wait for it. Seems like a strange subject for an SE, though.

Fans of the film should have no problem with it, but I'll try to view a snippet of it tonight on my HDTV and let you know what it looks like. Unless someone else chimes in first.

I rented this one a few years ago and remember the 16:9 widescreen transfer not being mind-blowingly good, but it was sufficient. And it's well priced ($19.99 SRP) if you don't feel like waiting for the SE. Makes for a decent Columbia House fulfillment purchase.

I have had this DVD for about a year now and if you like the movie it is worth getting. I think the transfer is fine but I am also not very picky either. I think I paid like $15 for it at Best Buy.

You can get this dvd for $ 9.94 at Target or WMart. I remember reading where a SE was on the way with audio commentary...but this was rumored about 2 years ago.

BTW, the dvd looks good. especially for a film from 1980.

I saw it at Target for $10 a few days ago, but held out for this upcoming SE. I know Reitman mentioned a late 2002 release ahwile back, but that was some time ago and I haven't heard anything since.

just in case anybody is interested, this is the lowest I found it at www.dvdpricesearch.com and thanks for all the info folks
this is confusing. you knew about this website, yet didn't use it to find out if stripes was on dvd. instead you posted a thread here asking if or when it was out. last time i checked, i hadn't lost it so ...

I had no idea it was on DVD, although you are right that I should have used the site. It was only when others mentioned it was on dvd, including the cover that I checked it out.

thanks again

ok oscar, i understand now :)
if you've got the funds, i wouldn't bother waiting around for the SE. as others have mentioned, the existing one costs very little and is good enough to get you by until the SE ...
although knowing columbia nostar, they'll probably release several reincarnations ... superbit, superduper bit, superbit delux, superduperbit superdelux fullframe ...
you will have more than enough choice eventually :D
piccy is resonable, though i don't remember it being particularly great either. we'll call it serviceable. same for sound. nought to loose really. :)
