I am having trouble finding a definitive DVD version for this movie. I know of at least 5 or 6 different studios that have released this film on DVD each with completely different transfers, options and features. I am looking for the best version available with at least some kind of wide screen transfer and the original Japanese language track with English subtitles. Presently I have the last version released (VCI) which includes a bad transfer and no subtitles or alternative language tracks, But some good cover art. By the way I am referring to the 1974 Sonny Chiba classic and not that god awful Van Damme flick.

Does anyone know the answer to this? Anyone bought the $12.00 set of all four films from Deep Discount?

The laser discs were officially released by New Line. I don't know if they still hold the rights to these films. If they do, I am surprised that they haven't released them on DVD yet.

I'm only going to follow up on this because I figure others were wondering the same thing. The Brentwood release (red cover, cheesy gold medal in the front) is as of now the best release of this film on DVD. It's features an acceptable widescreen transfer (compared to the rest) and has the original Japanese language track, but all is not perfect since it doesn't include subtitles for said Japanese language track(??). Street Fighter was a big inspiration for the new Tarantino film Kill Bill.
