At the last Warner chat. I believe it was mentioned that this classic is coming to dvd this year. If true I really hope they include a commentary with Rick Moranis & Dave Thomas IN CHARACTER as Bob & Doug.

I'm curious, what makes this a classic?

It seems like a decent enough--albeit dated--movie. But a classic?

Bill,
If you learn to sufficiently embrace and cultivate your love of beer and hockey, you will immediately demand that the Library of Congress add Strange Brew and Slap Shot to the National Film Registry in 2002. Of course, there will only be about 100 of us making this demand, but we will be very vocal, and the after-party will be a blast succeed or fail. :)
Regards,

I liked Strange Brew and Slap Shot. They're funny (well, Slap Shot, anyway), I liked watching them, but classics?

Take off!

Yes, absolutly a Classic! "Stange Brew" is a solid part of Canadian heritage! This easily deserves a royal treatment and a dual-DVD set. Still really suprises me that there was never a sequel. I think it was so cool that the story somewhat mimicks "Hamlet".

I would say Strange Brew is a comedy classic, or at least it is for me. It's just one of those films I can watch over and over, like Monty Python And The Holy Grail.

There was a sequel that was scheduled to be shot in 2000, but at the last minute (and I do mean the last minute) one of the backers pulled out and the whole thing was cancelled. Everything was ready to go. No idea if they'll take another shot at it, but here's hoping.

I'd call it classic. It's certainly got a huge cult following which it had to earn over time. That says to me that it did something right.
Slap Shot is right there with it too.
"psst, act. act"
That's Altman/Kubrick level directing there. ;)

The MGM letterbox LaserDisc is very good.

I love this movie. I agree a 2-disk set at the least, and hopefully a limited edition gold embossed 4-disk set hermetically sealed will be announced soon.

Okay, we found a mouse in our hermetically sealed 4-disc set, eh, and we heard that when that happens, you're supposed to like get free DVDs, eh.

There hasn't been any news on this yet. I believe we will see an official announcement coming shortly, though. The chat where WB confirmed this was coming was the same one that confirmed Clash of the Titans, which was just offically announced less than 30 days ago. The chat indicated that Clash would be before Brew, so a Brew announcement is probably in the next batch, or the batch right after that.
It shouldn't be too long now! :D
