Aaah. As much as some folks like Billy Crystal, he wore out his welcome with me years ago. Martin is perfect for the job, though - smart, droll, and a Hollywood guy able to wink at the town's excesses.

I liked him as Host of the Oscars two years ago, I'm glad he's coming back. Maybe he can make some more cracks about Russell Crowe too? [IMG]

This is great news - and I'm not just saying that because I have the same last name!

Awesome. I thought he did such a great job back in 2001. Last year with Whoopi was another snorefest, as usual.

More proof that a "Jerk" can go on to great things[IMG]
This is excellent news. I love Steve Martin's work, and it'll be swell to have him back as a host.
As long as Gil Cates doesn't bring back Bill Conti or Debbie Allen, I think we'll be in for smooth sailing.
    Sincerely,
    John Kilduff...
Tom Hanks, you should be ashamed of yourself!

The Hanks remark is a reference to a joke that Martin made at the Oscars concerning Hanks and Russell Crowe. As funny as the joke was, the best part was how Hanks went along with Martin and played up the material. One of the best moments of that Oscar telecast.

Stever Martin was good when he hosted, except his opening was bad (until he started his stand-up).

Anyway, he'll be better than Whoopi. But there aren't many BIG films this year for him to make fun of.

    Yahooooo!

I like Steve Martin, should be a great show. I'd also like to see Robin Williams host it. He hasn't yet has he? if he did I hadn't seen it.

I'm glad that Steve is replacing Whoopie, but I think the last two Emmy hosts [Ellen and Conan] performed admirably enough to make a push for a changing of the guard for the 'big show' in the near future.

Yeah but Robin Williams' tangents are funny so it would be OK.

What award show was it a few years back where the lady that was supposed to get the award had gone to the Bathroom when they called her name? The presenter saw Robin in the Front row (or near it) and called him up to entertain the crowd, until the lady returned to claim her prize. That was the funniest 45 seconds of the show.

I would love to see Conan O'Brien host the show. Sure, he would insult just about everyone in the room, but it would be a riot.
