I have seen a box set of Stephen King's movies that includes The Stand. The problem is that I believe it is a single disc version (DVD-18) that holds all 6 hours of the movie plus extras. There is a 2-disc version out of print but wonder if the single vs. double disc looks any different?

There shouldn't be anything different about them except for the packaging. I pre-ordered this title and got the single-disc version. If I had a choice I would've preferred the two-disc set. You don't have to be so careful with the disc plus you get TWO picture discs. It's similar to the release of the Ultimate Edition of Terminator 2.

I go the original DVD-18 when it came out. I love the film, as my friends and I used to watch it quite a bit in high school, but the picture quality is pretty abysmal, with grain everywhere. Oh well, nice to have it on disc anyways.

I haven't seem much in the way of compression artifacts, but the miniseries was shot on 16mm, which leads to a lower higher grain picture

I'm not crazy about flippers and like the disc art. But once in the machine, you don't think about the art and if the picture is the same... I'll just keep the DVD-18. The only convenience with the 2-disc set is for those who have multi-disc changers though stretching out a shorter movie over two disc gives more breathing room for compression.
