I'm looking for a source for low voltage step lights that I can use on both the stairs leading to the basement and seating platform.
In particular, I'm looking for louvered type that measures approximately three to four inches wide and two-three inches high.

I dont know if they will work for you but the K-Mart near my house has stringed lights that look like the movie theater stringed isle lights. They were only $5.00 but Im not sure how you could put them in place. Maybe a stable gun if it doesn't tear into them.
I might try them on the platform I just built for my back couch.

I've seen something similar to what you're looking for at Home Depot and Lowe's, in the low-voltage outdoor lighting section. Both places also have a growing collection of 12-volt halogen lights in various kits and components, and Lowe's now has fiber optic kits that look quite cool.

Thanks, I've had other suggestions pointing to Home Depot.
    I'll take a look.

Sam's Club has the same lights--Sunbeam's--and a far more reasonable price. I steered away from these rope lights because of the warnings about mounting them on carpet and my steps are carpeted. They do get hot.
