Love the Dan. Looking forward to the new album. Even more excited about the summer tour, since they're playing in the Twin Cities this time. :)

I am also a huge Steely Dan fan. Can't wait for this one - particularly the DVDA. Is the hirez also out on June 10th?
I am pretty sure the DVD-A will still be day and date. That is the version I will be picking up. Originally it was thought that this disc may be one of the first DVD-A Hybrid, but I don't think they have (or ever?) worked out the kinks yet on DVD-A Hybrids.

I'm all over the DVD-Audio disc. Remember, the album has been/will be recorded in analog! :)

I'm looking forward to this release, too. If it's as good as Fagen and Becker's last effort -- Two Against Nature -- I will be very pleased.

My dilemma is which format to purchase. I really want something to play in my car, but would also prefer to have the best sounding format for my home system. I will not buy both versions on release. This is why I prefer SACD (when the release is a hybrid) over DVD-A.

The last I heard from my Warner contact (about 2 weeks ago) Everything Must Go was still listed as a day and date release for DVD-A and CD.

As far as hybrids go, I have to check with a couple of sources. However, it might be quicker to get Mark Waldrep to discuss it, since he said he was working on them in one of his posts.

I bought the last dvd-a because it had the dts version. I figured someday I'll get a dvd-a/sacd player but I can still play it on my regular dvd player

New Steely Dan "Day & Date" CD & DVD-Audio Release

Following in the footsteps of the simultaneous CD and DVD-A release of Fleetwood Mac's new studio album Say You Will, Warner Music will release Steely Dan's highly anticipated new studio album Everything Must Go on both the CD and DVD-Audio format on the same day.

The album marks Walter Becker and Donald Fagen's first release since 2000's album, Two Against Nature. A year later, in February 2001, the album won 4 Grammy Awards including Album of the Year, Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group (Cousin Dupree), Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Engineered Album/Non Classical.

Steely Dan is no stranger to the DVD-Audio format. Warner Music Vision originally released Two Against Nature on DVD-Audio in the UK during August 2002. During January 2003, Warner released Donald Fagen's solo album The Nightfly on DVD-Audio (Fagen's second solo album Kamakiriad debuts on DVD-Audio in July 2003).

Produced for DVD-A by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, Everything Must Go features both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 Digital Surround soundtracks in the DVD-Video zone, making it compatible with all DVD players.

Grammy Award winning recording engineer, Elliot Scheiner, is responsible for the 5.1 mix on Everything Must Go. The DVD-A album includes an exclusive 13-minute short film piece entitled "Steely Dan Confessions", which finds Becker and Fagen touring the night life of Las Vegas with "Rita" the famous cab driver, from the HBO TV series Taxicab Confessions. The DVD-Audio album includes a Photo Gallery, Song Lyrics, Discography and Production Credits.

The U.K. release date for the DVD-A and CD versions of Steely Dan's "Everything Must Go" album is June 9, 2003, while the North American release is the following day, Tuesday June 10, 2003.

The CD version of the album is released by Reprise Records, while the DVD-Audio version is released by Warner Music Vision.

I hear you. I will probably buy both formats. Yup, Warner has me exactly where they want me. :frowning: That said, I won't buy both versions right away. I'll probably buy the DVD-Audio disc first so that my first listen can be on the higher-resolution disc. Then, if I like the album, which I am sure I will, I will buy the CD for the car, office, and second system (still not DVD-Audio-capable there). If, on the off chance, I don't like the album, at least I will not have bought both discs.

Next week!

- CD
- CD + DVD-video Special Edition
- DVD-Audio (with DTS, Dolby, and Advanced
Stereo Mixes, plus bonus video material)

I'm curious about the DVD-video. Anyone know what this is? I finally picked up the Classic Albums Aja DVD yesterday. Good stuff. I loved seeing Donald chanting "Uptown baby uptown baby!" when the Black Cow segment came on because of the hip hop song that used the sample a few years ago. :D

It will be strange to hear a New Steely Dan album in surround, first time around. I'm ready for the challenge :emoji_thumbsup:

Can't wait for the new Dan myself. I'll probably do what I did with the Fleetwood Mac release - grab both the DVD-A (for home listening) & CD (for car use and ripping to my Archos jukebox). If Best Buy holds true to form, they'll have the DVD-A at $14.99, and either they or Circuit City will sell the CD for $9.99. Not TOO bad, although I just saw Gary's post about the SE, so I may have to get that instead of the standard CD... Man, I AM Warner's whore...

Does Steely Dan have a problem with the Midwest?:D Come on, no Chicago date.
I have a DVD-A copy pre-ordered from Circuit City and am really looking forward to it's arrival. Steely Dan and Norah Jones on the same day.
